Independent ITAD Advisory · Lifecycle Contract Review · Aarhus, DK

Independent ITAD advisory for companies that need to understand real net return.

Most companies overestimate what retired IT equipment should return — because the associated costs are rarely visible early enough.

I help organisations understand the gap between expected asset value and actual net outcome after collection, logistics, data erasure, grading, resale, reporting and recycling — based on the real device pool and geographies involved.

Where expectations break down

Five recurring gaps I see

  • Expected return set without looking at the actual asset pool★★★
  • Geography, logistics and local handling costs underestimated★★★
  • ITAD expectations set without a cost-to-serve view★★★
  • Reuse, resale and recycling outcomes not explained clearly★★
  • No consolidated view across countries, vendors and device types★★
Pattern observations from independent advisory engagements across enterprise and client hardware. Indicative only.
01

The real issue is the gap between expected return and actual net outcome.

Decisions made in isolation

Procurement picks the cheapest device. Operations picks the easiest support contract. Sustainability picks the cleanest narrative. End-of-life is decided three years later by whoever happens to be on the call. The total cost is never optimised because nobody owns the whole arc.

The return expectation is usually too simple

Companies often ask what their used IT assets are worth. The better question is what they should expect back after associated costs: logistics, handling, erasure, grading, reporting, resale effort, recycling fallback and country-specific constraints.

Compliance and ESG without traceability

GDPR, NIS2, CSRD, and EU taxonomy all now demand chain-of-custody you cannot fake. Yet most lifecycle programmes lack serialised reporting from purchase to second life — turning ESG narrative into ESG exposure.

What I do, plainly.

/01

Asset Pool Return Assessment

Assessment of what your actual IT asset pool can realistically return across countries, device types and conditions — including the associated costs that turn gross value into net outcome.

/02

Lifecycle Contract Review

Independent review of DaaS, Hardware-as-a-Service and lifecycle contracts — focused on whether end-of-life scope, return assumptions, cost deductions, data erasure, reporting and ESG obligations are commercially clear.

/03

Vendor Strengths & Weaknesses

Practical, experience-based assessment of OEMs and lifecycle providers across enterprise and client hardware: where each vendor delivers, where each falls short, and which is the right fit for your operational profile. Vendor-neutral, no commissions.

/04

ITAD Contract Review

Line-by-line review of existing ITAD agreements. Identification of value leaks, missing clauses, and unfavourable terms — with a prioritised remediation plan.

/05

Global ITAD Benchmarking

Benchmarking of expected resale value, collection cost, processing cost, reporting quality and net return potential across geographies — based on actual devices, not generic market averages.

/06

Vendor-Neutral Tender Support

RFP design, vendor scoring, and selection support for lifecycle and ITAD tenders. Customer-side only — no kickbacks, no preferred partners, no hidden alignments.

/07

Compliance & ESG Advisory

GDPR alignment, NIST 800-88 data sanitisation standards, R2v3 / ISO 14001 vendor verification, and audit-ready documentation frameworks aligned with CSRD reporting requirements.

    Lifecycle Contract ITAD Advisor

Enterprise IT lifecycle contracts — DaaS, Hardware-as-a-Service, full-lifecycle outsourcing (Cisco, HPE GreenLake, Lenovo TruScale, Dell APEX, etc.) — almost always treat ITAD as an afterthought. That is structurally where the value leaks. Run through the checklist to see how well your lifecycle contract or RFP handles end-of-life.

Diagnostic only. Real value protection in lifecycle contracts depends on the interplay between residual value, financing, and ITAD execution — usually best reviewed clause-by-clause.

Lifecycle contracts hide ITAD risk inside the financing model. Most procurement teams never look there.

      ITAD Value Reality Checker

Use marketplace pricing as a benchmark — not as the expected corporate return. Enter a device and an observed resale price from eBay, Back Market or a similar platform. The tool estimates the realistic ITAD return range after the required cost, risk and process layers.

Enter an observed marketplace price to estimate the likely corporate ITAD return range.
Indicative only. Marketplace prices are end-resale prices. Final ITAD value depends on exact model, grade, battery health, keyboard layout, country, volume, data scope and route to market.

        One advisor. The whole lifecycle.

I have spent my career inside the IT hardware lifecycle — from procurement and deployment of enterprise and client devices through in-life management to second life and disposition. Laptops, iPhones, monitors, desktops, servers, networking — with exposure to more than 100,000 assets across 50+ countries on a global scale.

That experience cuts both ways. I know how OEMs and lifecycle providers actually behave: where each delivers, where each falls short, and which combinations work for which operational profiles. I have seen the easy markets and the difficult ones — from high-volume client-device returns to complex enterprise hardware across challenging geographies. I have built the reporting that connects asset-level data, operational cost, resale outcome, and management decision-making.

I now operate independently. No vendor on the other end of my email. No commissions, no preferred partners, no hidden alignments. My specialism is the part most consultants miss — how cradle-to-grave economics actually connect, and how to make sure your organisation captures the value at every stage rather than only the obvious ones.

Engagements range from a single contract review to long-term advisory across global lifecycle programmes. Pragmatic, transparent, Scandinavian.

        Common questions, plainly answered.

What is independent ITAD advisory and why does it matter?

Independent ITAD advisory means working on the customer side of the table — reviewing contracts, benchmarking pricing, and selecting vendors without any commercial tie to the providers being assessed. It matters because most ITAD agreements are drafted by the vendor's commercial team. Without an independent review, customers consistently leave residual value, compliance assurance, and ESG reporting quality on the table.

Do you receive commissions or kickbacks from ITAD vendors?

No. Engagements are exclusively customer-side, with no revenue share, referral fees, or commercial alignment with any ITAD vendor, OEM, or lifecycle provider. Fees are paid directly by the client on an hourly, fixed-fee, or retainer basis.

How is a DaaS or Hardware-as-a-Service contract different from a standalone ITAD contract?

In a standalone ITAD contract, end-of-life is visible as a service. In a DaaS or Hardware-as-a-Service contract, it is often embedded inside the wider lifecycle model. The practical issue is whether the contract explains what happens to the returned devices, what costs are deducted, what reporting is delivered, and how the final outcome can be verified.

What data erasure standards should an ITAD vendor meet?

The market standard is NIST 800-88 Rev. 1 for data sanitisation, typically implemented with certified erasure software such as Blancco (Common Criteria EAL3+, NCSC-approved). Devices that cannot be wiped to standard should be physically destroyed with documented chain-of-custody. Each device should receive an erasure certificate referencing its serial number, and the process should be auditable end-to-end. Anything vaguer than this should prompt questions.

What return should we realistically expect from our used IT assets?

There is no reliable benchmark without looking at the actual asset pool. A fleet of newer business laptops in Denmark is not the same case as mixed monitors in the Philippines, older desktops in remote sites, or enterprise hardware split across multiple countries. I help translate the actual pool into a realistic expectation: gross resale potential, likely deductions, logistics and processing cost, data-erasure scope, recycling fallback, and expected net return.

Which countries and regions do you cover?

Operational experience spans more than 100,000 assets across 50+ countries, including both straightforward and difficult markets. Engagements are typically delivered remotely with on-site sessions in Aarhus or at client locations when needed. Global lifecycle programmes are a particular area of specialism.

How long does a typical engagement take?

A focused ITAD or lifecycle contract review typically takes 1–2 weeks from document handover to delivery of a written findings report with prioritised recommendations. Tender support runs across the RFP cycle. Strategic lifecycle advisory engagements span months and are usually structured as retainers. The complimentary 30-minute intro call is the right place to scope the right format.

Does the advisory cover both enterprise and client hardware?

Yes. The lifecycle covered includes client devices such as laptops, iPhones and other smartphones, tablets, and monitors, as well as enterprise hardware such as desktops, servers, and networking equipment. The financial and compliance mechanics differ across device classes — a fleet iPhone lease is a different commercial animal from a server refresh — and the advisory reflects that.

Let's check what your IT asset pool should realistically return.

30 minutes, no commitment, no slide deck. Bring a lifecycle contract, an ITAD agreement, or a rough description of your device pool across countries. You will leave with a clearer view of where expected return, associated cost, data security, ESG reporting and vendor accountability need to be challenged.
